My first cruiser was a Clipper 23 which I bought partially complete. She took many hours and dollars to get ready to sail. Her first adventure was by trailer from Calgary Alberta via Berrard Civic Marina launching ramp to Pender Harbour and back to Calgary. I sailed her a fair bit more in a few lakes in Alberta. I sold her from Sideny BC. A couple of years later found her in floating in a lake by Fort Francis Ontario.
I bought a Catalina 27 "Gulf Sprite". I met Gulf Sprite in Tseum Harbour by Sidney BC and sailed her to many places in the Gulf Islands. She was fun and helped me explore the beauty of many of the islands. With Cathy Tyhurst, a great sailing friend of mine, I took Gulf Sprite as far north as Laquite Island. Lasquite Island is a different place with its own culture. There are no utilities provided on the island so every home has to provide its own services that we take for granted in town. Gulf Sprite was sold after about 7 years and I was without a boat for a few years.
I had always admired the O'Day 25 as a great cruising design for a trailerable sailboat. Along with the O'Day I admired the Bayfield especially the 29. I was cruising the interent on day and found a great WEB site Good Old Boat and in their WEB site I found the Fixer-upper page. I snooped around a found "Cat's Paw" an O'Day 27, a neglected boat sitting in South Dakota. Her owner had moved back east and left her inland. She was neglected but with minimal deterioration. I bought her and moved her to Ghost Lake by Calgary Alberta.
